A plain explanation

What DR and DA measure: Domain Rating and Domain Authority explained

DR is an Ahrefs score and DA is a Moz score. Both estimate link strength from the vendor's own data. Neither is a Google ranking factor. Here is what that means for you.

  • DR comes from Ahrefs and DA comes from Moz
  • Both scores summarize the links pointing at a site
  • Neither one is a Google ranking factor

The short answer

Domain Rating, or DR, is a score from 0 to 100 that Ahrefs shows for a website. Domain Authority, or DA, is a similar score from 1 to 100 that Moz shows. Both estimate how strong the link profile of a site looks, based on the links each company has found on the web.

They are third party metrics. Ahrefs and Moz calculate them with their own formulas and crawl data. Google does not use either number as a ranking factor. A higher DR or DA does not by itself raise rankings or traffic.

The numbers are useful for comparing link profiles and following change in a tool you already use. That is what BoostDADR is built for: raising the number for your own tracking and reports.

What the two numbers do and do not tell you

Each score summarizes links in one vendor's data.

  • A link strength estimate

Both scores tend to rise when more links from stronger sites point at a domain.

  • A comparison tool

Two sites side by side show which one has the stronger link profile in that vendor's data.

  • A trend line

Checked in one tool each month, the number shows whether your links are growing or shrinking.

  • Not a ranking factor

Google does not use DR or DA to rank pages. Neither score is one of its signals.

  • Not a traffic measure

A site can show a high score and little traffic, or the reverse.

  • Not a quality grade

The scores count links. They do not judge your content or whether links are natural.

How to read a number sensibly

Four steps for any DR or DA figure.

1

Name the source

A DR from Ahrefs and a DA from Moz sit on different scales and cannot be swapped.

2

Compare like with like

Compare sites inside one tool, on the same day and within the same topic.

3

Look at the trend

One reading says little. Several readings over a few months show direction.

4

Pair it with real data

Read the score next to your own traffic and rankings from analytics and Search Console.

Limits and risks

A DR or DA figure is not a promise about anything. The vendors recalculate it as their crawlers find or lose links, so it can change or drop at any time.

BoostDADR raises these numbers with permanent redirects (301) placed from established domains. They pass link equity that Ahrefs and Moz count. Redirect based links can look unnatural to Google, and no vendor can promise they are safe for any monetization program. You take that risk when you order.

The only protection is the 30 day free refill. If the number you bought drops below the purchased level within 30 days of delivery, we redo it for free. It is a service term, not a guarantee that the number stays.

Use the service for your own tracking and reports. Do not use the number to sell a site at a higher price, to mislead a client or a buyer, or as proof of organic authority.

Questions about DR and DA

Is Domain Rating the same as Domain Authority?

No. Domain Rating comes from Ahrefs and Domain Authority comes from Moz. Each uses its own crawler, link index and formula, so one site can show quite different numbers in the two tools. Stay inside one tool when you compare or track change. Our post on DA versus DR goes through the differences.

Does a higher DR or DA improve my Google rankings?

Not by itself. Links can matter to search, and a site that earns good links may do better over time. But the score is a summary made by a third party, and Google does not use it as a ranking factor. We make no promise about rankings or traffic,.

Why can my number change when I have done nothing?

Ahrefs and Moz recalculate on their own schedules. Lost links, new links and formula changes can all move a figure. This is why we offer a 30 day free refill as a service term and do not call the number permanent.

Can I check the numbers myself?

Yes. Both vendors offer free checker tools where you can type in a domain and see its current score. Check before you order and again after delivery, in the same tool, and write down the date and figure each time. Our post on how to check DR and DA yourself shows the steps.
